I am so excited to announce our big giveaway! If you regularly read the blog, you’ll notice that Joy Wright Photography has a whole new look. To celebrate, I will be giving away a DREAM session to one lucky little girl! Not only I am giving away a session and a complimentary 11×14 print to the winner, but Angie from Miss Things Boutique is generously adding a $55 gift certificate to Miss Things Boutique to go towards a new tutu or petti outfit for your little one’s session, AND Lorraine from Little Cans of Beans is donating two of her Vintage Inspired Handmade Flower clips along with two interchangeable headbands.

Miss Things Boutique offers the largest selection of custom, hand-made Pettiskirt and Tutu Couture on the market! Whether it’s a special item for a holiday, birthday, newborn, or even yourself, Miss Things Boutique is just the place to find EXACTLY what you are looking for! What makes Miss Things Boutique so unique is that everything can be custom; you can design dream couture for your little one. At Miss Things Boutique, you have a Custom Designer for life. You can use your gift certificate towards any item on her site!

Little Cans Of Beans is my favorite source for vintage inspired hair accessories on Etsy. Photographers are crazy about her unique photo props, from knit and crocheted hats to vintage inspired hair pieces, and Moms are equally inspired by her creativity and vintage flair. These are not your average hair pieces at all! Little Cans of Beans is also on face book. Go check them out here! She is donating TWO of her incredible vintage inspired handmade flower clips, along with two interchangeable headbands. She will consult with the winner on the design, colors, etc.

To enter the contest, simply check out Miss Things Boutique’s and Little Cans Of Beans’s sites and then come back here to the blog and post (in a single comment) what your favorite item is from each shop, before Thursday night at midnight. One entry per person/household, and please do not post any comments here on this post except for entries! Also, please actually go to the sites and look around; don’t duplicate others’ entries. The winner will be chosen next Friday by the random number generator.

Since I can’t post without images, here are a few of my favorites that showcase both Miss Things Boutique and Little Cans of Beans:

Hi all!

I’m so excited to be introducing a brand new way of doing portraits for Joy Wright Photography……The Portrait Party! These mini sessions are a great solution if you only want a few updated images of your little wild thing, or if you just want to try JWP out without doing a custom session.

Please see below for details, and feel free to email me or call me at 205.910.6756 with any questions!

I’m going to be doing a “Photographing Baby’s First Year” workshop at Samford University on Saturday, December 5 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We will spend the morning going over tips on getting those special shots of your little sweetie, as well as covering all the best stages to photograph your baby in her first year. We’ll have a lunch break (you can bring your own, or eat at Samford’s food court) then after lunch we’ll use Samford’s beautiful campus and practice the tips with models.

This is a workshop for beginners. Bring your camera! A DSLR camera would be helpful, but is not required. To get more information, or to sign up, please go to the Samford After Sundown site.

Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2009

My family went trick or treating at my cousins in Oneonta, as we do every year. Here are a few of the boys in their costumes. Gabe, the sad pirate, was not the slightest bit interested in having his funky costume documented, but Monkey Eric gives a thumbs up to the process!

The October date will be on Morris Avenue, and the November date will be at the Botanical Gardens. These sessions will also have special collections, just for minis!

Special Announcement

August 19, 2009

As many of you know, I have been taking photography classes at Samford University for the last year and a half, and working toward a certification in photography in their Samford after Sundown program.

Now, I am so pleased to share with you that I will be teaching a class for the program this fall! The class is for beginners and is called “Photographing Babies and Children”. Even though everyone knows how important it is to capture milestones in the life of your child with portraits, sometimes we don’t realize how important it is to capture all those in between times, by photographing them ourselves. We will be learning tips to better capture all those special moments that occur with children, from a sweet baby face covered with orange squash, to riding tricycles for the first time, and even Prom.

Whether you have a nice point and shoot or a DSLR camera, this class would be perfect for you if you want to improve your photography. Each age of childhood brings with it unique firsts to capture, and different challenges, and we will be covering it all!

If you’re interested in taking the class, registration is now open. It will start in September, and will be a two hour class, once a week for six weeks. Please see the Samford after Sundown site (link below) for more information or to register.  Classes are limited in size and fill up quickly, so if you are interested, register now. I hope to see you there!  https://ceu.samford.edu/metro/CourseListing.asp?master_id=769&course_area=ARA&course_number=124&course_subtitle=00
