My Family: An Example

July 24, 2009

Anyone who’s had me photograph their toddler has heard me say that from age 13 months (first walking) until about two and a half is a very interesting age to shoot.  Kids are on the go, and so images tend to be more documentary style that posed portraits.  This session with my child, who is 22 months old is a prime example.  He was everywhere but still!  All these emotions and expressions happened within a 20 minute time interval!

More clothing choices!

July 19, 2009

I LOVE these choices that Michigan photog Ellen Dykstra has posted on her blog. These blues and greens are my favorite colors! Check it out if you’d like to see some great ideas for dressing for family sessions.  http://ellendykstraphotography.com/blog/?p=541

My sister Julie came by to decorate Cole’s cast for him. Here are the results. I can’t wait for football season to start!

Also, does it look to anyone else like my son actually has elephant’s feet, as well?

Well, this is what I have spent all day (and Jake spent all last evening) attending to. He was so brave. The doctor told me that it would hurt when he put the bones where he wanted them, but all Cole said was “OW!”

He asked me after dinner if he could take his cast off now for bath and bed, and I really thought he was going to lose it when I told him it had to stay on for a few weeks.

Also, please note that the flower bed is almost all gone over to weeds.

This family was a lot of fun.  The kids really enjoyed being let loose in the gardens.  I really wish I had half the energy of these two boys.  Little sister was so sweet and snuggly that I had a hard time putting her down to take her picture!

Here is my favorite of each little one from the session.

I just love sessions like these!  The first thing big sister asks me is if she should wear her Pink Floyd or her Led Zeppelin shirt.  She is (almost) 14!   I knew this session was going to go well, and I was right.   I had a really hard time picking out a single image to blog of M.marleyblog

And then I got to photograph Baby E.  This little sweetpea was awake the whole time, just taking it all in.   He is just gorgeous!

A fun one of Miss L!

I just couldn’t resist; I was playing around, and I just loved this one.  I gave her some wings to match her dress!

I always talk to clients about what they should wear for their family sessions so that they all look great together without being “matchy”. The goal is to look natural, not forced, which can be hard to do sometimes!

Ellen Dykstra, a Michigan photographer with way more fashion sense than me (!), has started putting together suggestions for combining outfits with similar colors for the whole family. If you want to see some great ideas for clothing for your session, wander over to her blog and take a peek: http://ellendykstraphotography.com/blog/?cat=16

Welcome Kitties!

July 4, 2009

I tried to take some pictures last night of the boys with our new adopted kittens, River (tabby) and Cameron (black and white). As usual, things went downhill fast. I love the results though, because these are MY boys!
